The statistics of driver's licence exams shows that nearly half of the people who want to get a driver's licence in Estonia do not pass the exam in the first attempt and several have to take several exams, reports LETA reffering to Postimees Online.

According to the Estonian Road Board data, in the first half of the year, 11,613 people took the driving exam and 6,442 passed it. 10,021 people took the traffic regulations theory exam and 7,607 people passed.

President of the Estonian Union of Driving Schools Enn Saard thinks the reason lies in the fact that the theory test is more specific and it does not depend on one being nervous. "When taking a driving exam in traffic, not everything depends on you, there are a lot more outside matters."

Road Board Exam department senior specialist Rutt Riiberg said that the biggest problem with young drivers is shortage of driving practice.

According to the Estonian system, an aspirating driver needs to pass a study course consisting of theory and a certain amount of driving practice lessons in driving schools before taking the licence exam at the Roads Board.
