Estonia becomes member of Baltic Council of Railways

The Baltic States, Russia, Byelorussia and Finland founded the Baltic Council of Railways, in order to strengthen regional cooperation between railways and raise the competitiveness of railways by optimizing the transport process; Estonia also became its member, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

"The Baltic Council of Railways helps to make more precise administrative decisions at the regional as well as specific railways level," Eesti Raudtee board chairman Ahti Asmann commented the creation of a new organisation.

 

Asmann said that creation of the Baltic Council of Railways means for Eesti Raudtee better cooperation with the other members of the organisation and strengthening the competitive position at the international cargo and passenger transport markets.

 

The first session of the Baltic Council of Railways took place on February 6 in St Petersburg where the cooperation memorandum determining the aims and activities was signed and a decree was approved that stipulates the main tasks, functions and working rules of the council.
