Cargo volumes at Estonian railways fell by 13.6% in 9 months

A total of 19.8 mln tonnes of cargo was transported on Eesti Raudtee (Estonian Railways Co) infrastructure in the first nine months of this year, by 13.6% less than at the same time last year, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The September cargo volume was 1.76 million tonnes, a fall of 24.1% from a year ago. In September, transport of oil and oil products fell by 33.3% to 0.97 mln tonnes year-on-year. Transport of oil shale fell by 33.8% to 0.28 mln tonnes. Transport of fertilisers grew by 73% to 0.24 million tonnes.

 

In nine months, oil and oil products' transport fell by 3.85 million tonnes in a year to 11.49 million tonnes. The volume of oil shale fell 29.5% to 2.6 million tonnes, that of fertilisers grew by 40% to 2.35 mln tonnes and that of chemical goods by 2.5 times to 1.67 mln tonnes.

 

Transit transport fell by nearly 13% to 15.14 mln tonnes in nine months, local transport by 27% to 3 mln tonnes. Import-export transport grew by 12% to 1.67 mln tonnes.

 

Container volume was 39,331 TEU in nine months, 64.6% more than last year. September volume was 4,085 TEU.

 

The state-owned railway cargo transport company EVR Cargo's cargo volume grew by 9.1% in a year to 14.16 million tonnes in nine months. E.R.S. transported 5.66 million tonnes, 43.2% less than a year ago.
