Cargo turnover of Latvia's large ports increased by 1% in first ten months of 2008

In the first ten months of the year 2008, Latvia's large ports handled 52.5 million tons of cargo, which is 1% more when compared to the first ten months of 2007, according to information from the Transport Ministry. In the first ten months of the year, Latvia's small ports handled 1,081,500 tons of cargo, which is 9.8% less when compared to the first ten months of 2007.

Riga Port.

Riga Port registered the largest cargo turnover, 24.28 million tons or 13.2% more than in January-October 2007.

 

Ventspils Port was second with cargo turnover of 23.536 million tons (9.4% decrease), and Liepaja Port was third with cargo turnover at 3.608 million tons (8.3% up).

 

In the first ten months of the year, Latvia's small ports handled 1,081,500 tons of cargo, which is 9.8% less when compared to the first ten months of 2007.

 

Mersrags Port reported the largest cargo turnover of 408,300 tons – a 21.3% increase on January-October 2007.

 

Skulte Port handled 379,800 tons of cargo (15.5% decrease), Salacgriva Port – 258,000 tons (26.7% decrease), Roja Port – 32,000 tons (43.7% decrease), and Pavilosta Port – 4,100 tons.

 

100 tons of cargo was handled at the Engure Port in January-October 2008.
