Presenting the airport's development project, Butkevics pointed out that already now the airport's management is beginning to think about reserving the necessary land and constructing the necessary infrastructure, writes LETA.
Butkevics informed that after the airport's development project is complete, the airport hopes to become the largest airport in the Baltic States, which will be able to service 20 million passengers per year. In the distant future, the airport hopes to expand and develop transit so far, so that 45 million passengers are serviced per year.
This year, the airport plans to service 3.7 million passengers.
After the 5th and 6th stages of the airport's development plan is implemented, the size of ''Riga'' airport will be four-times larger than it is at the moment, and it will be able to service 12 million passengers per year, surpassing Oslo and Helsinki.
