Port of Riga.

During the first eight months of 2008, 19.41 million tons of cargo were handled at the Port of Riga, which is a 12.4% increase, compared with the respective period of time last year. Ventspils Port in its turn handled 19.25 million tons of cargo – a 10.4% decrease on the results of January-August 2007.

Liepaja Port registered 9.7% year-on-year increase of the volume of cargo transshipments, there the cargo handled during the first eight months of this year totaled 2.9 millions of tons.

Mersrags Port handled 343.300 tons of freights – registering a year-on-year rise of 26.7%, in Salacgriva Port 193,200 tons of cargo were handled, which is 31.6% down, compared with the volume of transshipments in the respective period of time in 2007.

Latvia's ten ports handled a total of 42.44 millions of tons of cargo in the first eight months this year, or 0.2% more than in the respective period of 2007.
