Taskila said that getting the permits to fly to Asia or Northern America is a long term and not an easy process. After getting the permission, talks have to take place to get overflight permits. Then corresponding planes would have to be acquired, staff trained, infrastructure created, clients found.
"Thus if the corresponding decision were made next year, we could make our first long-distance flight in the summer of 2014," said Taskila.
Taskila said though that he does not see a possibility for long-distance flights now. "First we have to stabilise the company and strengthen the position at our main markets like the Baltic States, CIS states and Nordic states to achieve sustainable growth. When the time is ripe for it, long-term flights from Tallinn will start," said Taskila.
