Turkish Airlines: Riga Airport's security fees could cause problems in future

Alla Petrova, BC, Riga, 03.01.2012.Print version
The Riga Airport's new security fees could cause problems in the future, Turkish Airlines representative in the Baltic States Melih Yaman told Nozare.lv.

Yaman explains that Tallinn and Vilnius are reducing their fees, whilst Riga chooses the exact opposite, reports LETA.

The airline has not received any explanations as to why it was necessary to introduce such fees and their benefit. It was only stated that the fees will have to be paid. It is still not clear why they were introduced now.

As reported, in October 2011, the Cabinet of Ministers accepted a proposal to introduce security fees at Riga International Airport, stipulating that EUR 6.5 (LVL 4.54) to EUR 7 (LVL 4.89) would have to be paid for each passenger.

The Transport Ministry previously pointed out that such fees are adequate to the required security measures that must be ensured by the airport.
