Joint Port of Tallinn was the leader in Baltics in January – July

With the sea born totalling to 21,5 million tons Klaipėda Port’s cargo handling growth rate throughout seven month of the year 2011 was even 23,0% up comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year. According to cargo handling turnover in Easter Coast Baltic Ports in the period of January – July of 2011 Klaipeda Port has still remained ahead the neighbouring Ports of Riga and Ventspils but slightly left behind the Joint Port of Tallinn.

The common cargo handling results of Klaipeda Port and Būtingė Terminal made 26,5 million tons in January – July of  2011 and exceeded the handling turnover of the Joint Port of Tallinn by 4,4 million tons, informed BC press service of Klaipeda Port.

 

The highest increase in cargo turnover during seven month of this year comparing with the corresponding period of 2010 was reached due to increased handling volumes of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers (+1 437,9 thousand tons), liquid natural and chemical fertilizers (+639,0 thousand tons), containerized cargo (+604,9 thousand tons), oil products (+480,7 thousand tons), Ro – Ro cargo (+418,9 thousand tons) and bulk iron ore (+317,8 thousand tons).

 

In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of dry and bulk cargo were the handling turnover made 8 317,2 thousand tons (38,8% of all cargoes handled in the Port) increased mostly(by 26,2%). The handling turnover of general cargo advanced by 21,6% to 6 588,7 thousand tons (30,7%). Liquefied cargo handling volumes increased by 20,4%, the handling volumes of this cargo group were 6 553,4 thousand tons ( 30,5%).

 

3 939 vessels, i.e. more by 8,7% or by 316 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year called Klaipėda Port in January–July of this year. The number of passengers calling the Port throughout the analysed period was 186,9 thousand, i.e. more by 0,9% comparing with the corresponding period of 2010. The number of cruise passengers in January – July of 2011 was 13,1 thousand, i.e. less by – 45,2% or by – 10,8 thousand passengers.

 

Klaipėda Port has further maintained its position of the leading Port in containerized cargo handling in the region of the Baltic countries. 241 731 TEU, i.e. more by 47,0% comparing to the correspondingperiodof 2010 (the increase made77 256TEU) were handled in Klaipėda Port in January – July of 2011.
