International airport "Riga" is not feeling much competition from Lithuania and Estonian airports at the moment and is still the leading airport in the region, the chairman of the board of airport "Riga" Arnis Luhse pointed out to the business information portal Nozare.lv.

He emphasized that passenger turnover at airport "Riga" continues to grow, as well as the number of flights to and from the airport.

This past January, airport "Riga" serviced a total of 301,398 passengers, which was 1.2% more when compared to January 2010, writes LETA.

Passenger volumes in the first two months of the year at Tallinn Airport increased by 25% when compared to the first two months of last year.

On the other hand, Vilnius Airport, which has seen smaller growth, recently announced new flights for the summer season – Ryanair will begin flights to Bremen, London, Dublin, Milan, Barcelona and Rome, Lufthansa will increase the number of flights to Frankfurt, whilst Estonia Air will begin flights to Berlin.

Airport "Riga" informs that the airport services 1 million Ryanair passengers each year.
