The Sillamäe Port in North East Estonia and construction company Nordecon Infra signed on Monday a construction contract according to which a parking facility for trucks waiting to cross the border with Russia will be built by summer of 2011 in Sillamäe, Estonian press reports.

A facility for 450 trucks waiting for the border crossing will be built on a 9.7 hectares space by the Tallinn-Narva highway, together with service buildings, lighting, queue system.

According to the vision of the Sillamäe port, the parking lot will be used for customs checkups also in the future. This requires an interstate agreement, writes LETA.

The construction contract is a sequel to the grant agreement of the European Commission and economy and communications ministry allocating 1.15 million euros for the parking facility and the deadline of completion was set at January 31, 2012.

The aim of the facility is to avoid traffic dangers that emerge because trucks waiting to cross the border with Russia jam the roadsides and also there are no facilities for drivers there now.
