Estonian Air calls plans of airBaltic in Lithuania weird

Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 21.09.2010.Print version
The plan of the owner of the airBaltic aviation company Bertolt Flick to create a new aviation company in Lithuania seems weird to the Estonian national carrier Estonian Air, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

'Estonian Air' has a calm attitude towards the arrival of a new competitor in Lithuania since our strategy there is mainly based on cooperation with large international aviation companies like KLM, SAS,” said Estonian Air’s public relations manager Ilona Eskelinen.

“Based on the current information, it seems that the new aviation firm will start directly competing with airBaltic’s flights via Riga and on the background of that, this plan seems weird. But time will tell how events will develop,” she said.

Recently, Estonian Air announced that the enlargement of the company to the Lithuanian market at the beginning of this year has been successful and the aviation firm has decided to expand its activities in Lithuania further – starting October 31, Vilnius-Stockholm flights will be added to Vilnius-Amsterdam flights.
