Estonian shipping company Lindaliini is holding talks with the Kuressaare Sanatoriums company to launch catamaran trips between Helsinki and Estonia’s largest island Saaremaaa in summer 2011, LETA/Meie Maa writes.

The trips will be charter trips at least initially, not regular ones. Initially the first trip was to take place already this autumn but due to a number of risks was postponed, said AS Lindaliini Enn Rohula.

Rohula said that while initially, the plan to sail to Kuressaare yachting port was considered, now the catamarans will travel to Kuivastu port still. Rohula said that they are considering a stop in the Haapsalu port.

The charter trips will take place from Midsummer’s till the middle of August with 3-4 day intervals. The ship would sail from Helsinki to Kuivastu in 4 hours and a one-way ticket would cost around 500 kroons. Currently a tourist needs some 10 hours to get from Helsinki to Saaremaa.

Lindaliini operates two catamarans that accommodate 400 and 370 people respectively and usually they sail on the Tallinn-Helsinki route.
