Ireland's low-cost airline Ryanair saw a 67% increase in the volume of its passengers in Lithuania over the past seven months of the year 2010, compared with the same period last year.

"As many as 390,000 passengers chose the Ryanair airline and lowest fares, punctuality. Presently, Ryanair offers 19 routes from Kaunas airport," the airline's spokesman Laszlo Tamas said.

As of the beginning of November, Ryanair will start flying to Gothenburg of Sweden from Kaunas. Ryanair will operate these flights three times a week. It is expected to increase the number of the company's clients in Lithuania up to 1 million a year.

On the other hand, the Ryanair spokesman said, the airline may have to give up some unprofitable routes as of this autumn. Winter season routes are still not know yet, they will be decided upon after observing passenger traffic. As of this autumn, Ryanair may stop offering flights to Bremen, Birmingham and Girona.

The company does not rule out the possibility of launching flights from Vilnius and Palanga, informs LETA/ELTA.

As reported, in May this year, the Irish airline opened its first East and West European base in the Kaunas airport. Ryanair will invest 140 million U.S. dollars in the base and employ some 1,000 people.

In Kaunas, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has two planes which fly to the airports of eighteen countries.
