Latvian national airline airBaltic plans to establish a base in Finland, which would ensure 10-15 direct flights to various destinations, the Finnish television and radio company YLE reports.

airBaltic has already informed the Finnish Transport Ministry of its plans, which is related to the company's intention to purchase the private Finnish airline Finncomm., writes LETA.

Next year, airBaltic plans to increase the number of flights it operates from Finland two-fold.

In July, airBaltic will have transported approximately 50,000 passengers to and from destinations in Finland, with the yearly passenger volume in Finland likely to reach 500,000.

airBaltic plans to open up a new base in either Oulu, Tampere and Turku in the next few years, operating direct flights from these cities to central Europe.

If an agreement on the purchase of Finncomm is unsuccessful, airBaltic plans to establish its own regional airline in Finland, YLE reports.
