The Turkish airline Turkish Airlines is prepared to increase its number of flights between Riga and Turkey, however, an agreement has yet to be made with the responsible officials in Latvia, the airline's director Temel Kotil told members of the Latvian press in Istanbul.

''We are prepared to double flights between Riga and Istanbul, however, we were told that the current number of flights is sufficient,'' Kotil pointed out.

At the moment, Turkish Airlines flies between Istanbul and Riga four times a week.

Turkish Airlines sees Riga as a good place for business, where it is able to earn profit.

The airline is the fourth largest in Europe at the moment, and wishes to strengthen its positions on the continent and become Europe's second largest airline. In this strategy, Riga has an important place, because it sees the Latvian capital as a hub for travelers from northern Europe.

''Riga is a good place from where Turkish Airlines can pick up passengers,'' said the airline's director.

Even though it was previously announced that Turkish Airlines intends to begin flights from Riga to other destinations in Turkey, Kotil said that Turkish Airlines is not planning to connect Riga with other Turkish cities and countries at the moment.
