In the first four months of the year 2010, Estonia’s national carrier Estonian Air carried altogether 150,259 passengers, of whom 134,018 persons traveled on regular flights, the company reports. The total number of passengers decreased by 10.5%, year-on-year, on regular flights – by 9.6%.

Estonian Air carried from Tallinn 144,101 passengers, from Vilnius – 4,409 and from Tartu, Pärnu and Kuressaare – in total 1,749 passengers.

In April Estonian Air carried 36,260 passengers, of whom 32,290 used regular flights. The y-o-y decrease for total number of passengers is 21.2%, and 24.5% for regular flights.

In the first four months the market share of Estonian Air in the regular flights segment at Tallinn Airport was 41.8 %, which is 1.4 percentage points lower, year-on-year. The total market share (regular and charter flights) was 38.9%, which is 1.5 percentage points lower, year-on-year.

In the first four months, Estonian Air operated 3,081 flights, which is 3.5% less flights, year-on-year. In April Estonian Air operated 738 flights, which is 12.8% less, y-o-y.

"The slight decrease in market share is coming from the optimisation of flights on the routes with lower demand," explained Rauno Parras, Estonian Air's Deputy President Commercial.

The increase in passenger's number, that started to pick up in March, was hit back by the flight restrictions caused by ash clouds in April.

"This will be corrected by the growing interest in air travel during the holiday high season. Europe offers plenty of exciting destinations awaiting discovery, where it is possible to fly together with Estonian Air this summer", added Parras.

In the first four months the regularity of Estonian Air was 96.9% and the 15-minute punctuality was 85%. In April the regularity and punctuality were 96.7% and 90.5%, respectively.
