Israeli airline Sun D’or International Airlines is planning to launch charter flights between Riga and Tel Aviv, the newspaper Biznes&Baltija reports. The airline will employ a "Boeing 757-200" plane on the Riga-Tel Aviv route, with over 200 seats on board.

Sun D’or International Airlines is a fully owned subsidiary of the Israeli national airline El Al Israel Airlines, the leading operator of charter flights in Israel. The Israeli Transport Ministry has already issued the airline with a permit for launching flights to Riga, informs LETA.

Biznes&Baltija writes that the maiden flight is due at end-April. It is unknown at the moment how many flights a week there will be from Riga to Tel Aviv, but it is expected that these flights will be popular with Latvian travelers who wish to visit their friends or relatives in Israel, or visit the country as tourists.

Such flights are very well booked, airBaltic Vice President Janis Vanags commented. "At the moment, our planes fly to Tel Aviv five times a week, and we might add the sixth in summer. We try to use a "Boeings 757" on these flights, which has almost twice as much room for passengers as "Boeing 737". The arrival of a new airline at the Riga Airport is always welcome," Vanags said.
