Slesers: American Airlines could begin direct flights between Riga and New York in 2011-2012

Print versionIn the upcoming years, direct flights between Riga and New York could be started, Riga Vice Mayor Ainars Slesers (Latvia's First Party/Latvia's Way) told members of the press today.

Slesers informed that during his recent visit to the U.S. city of Dallas, which is an important logistics center, he met with representatives of U.S. airline American Airlines to discuss the possibility of beginning direct flights between the United States and Latvia, informs LETA.
"I see much prospect for the implementation of such direct flights, which could be started in 2011 or 2012," said Slesers.
During the visit to the United States, Slesers met with "Boeing" representatives to discuss the construction of an airplane maintenance center at Airport Riga. "Such a project could take place in the future," said Slesers.
As reported, at the moment, Uzbekistan Airways is offering direct flights between Riga and New York.
