Yesterday, on June 3, 100th scheduled container train carrying car parts for Volkswagen cars arrived from Germany to Kaluga’s Volkswagen Rus plant.

Let us recall, that in November 2007 JSC TransContainer signed the agreement with Volkswagen Rus on car parts transportation for VW Passat, VW Jetta, VW Tuareg and Skoda from Kosice (Slovakia) and Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic) to Volkswagen plant in Kaluga, informs BC.

Schenker Automotive Railnet, affiliate of Deutsche Bahn AG is acting as a partner in the project. “Since January 20, 2008 we carried in container block trains to the Kaluga plant about 11,000 TEU cargoes. This year in total it is planned to carry to JSC “Volkswagen Rus” plant about 50,000 TEU” – said Mr. Peter Baskakov, Director General with JSC TransContainer.

He also mentioned that JSC TransContainer has opened its own agency in Kaluga, which is working on all the transport and logistics tasks for the plant. “Besides, in the nearest future we plan to launch container deliveries directly to the plant’s approach roads via station Perspektivnaya. The first trial delivery according to this scheme was arranged on January 16, and it showed that we can offer fast and efficient cargo services to the plant via stations of Kaluga and Perspektivnaya, which will allow for the substantial increase of cargo volumes” – pointed Mr. Peter Baskakov.

Container transshipment from the narrow gauge to the broad at station Brest-Severny, formation of container trains and cargo forwarding operations at the territory of Belarus is being carried out by the representative office of JSC TransContainer in the country. According to the Head of the Office, Jury Kapustin, on April 12 one year passed since the official establishment of the representative office, and according to the project Volkswagen Rus it is possible to evaluate the efficiency of its activities.

“We undertook specific commitments on service organization, and gave our guarantee on availability of the necessary amount of platforms and containers. The services of the scheduled container trains are provided in cooperation with Belorussian Railways, and activities are very fruitful. We have at our disposal high-tech system of numbered traffic control and car/containers location control. It provided a new impetus for creation of the efficient joint container business development schemes in international railway traffic”, – added Mr. Jury Kapustin.
