Cargo transported via Lithuanian railways decreased by 31.1% in January-June

In January-June 2009, Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai, the Lithuanian national railroad, transported 19.7 million tonnes of cargo, a decrease of 31.1% from the same period of the preceding year.

The amount of cargo transported via international routes dropped 36.4% in January-June 2009 and stood at 13.5 million tonnes, and the amount of domestic cargo shrank 15.7% and totaled 6.2 million tones, writes ELTA/LETA.

 

Transit railroad traffic decreased 40.9% and made up major part (43.4%) of cargo transported via international routes.
