DFDS increases sailings between Estonia, Sweden, closes Paldiski-Hanko route

BC, Tallinn, 30.09.2020.Print version
Ferry operator DFDS announced on Wednesday that from Oct. 4, there will be two daily departures on the Paldiski-Kapellskar route nearly every day after Patria Seaways is moved to the route from the Paldiski- Hanko route, which will be closed due to unsatisfactory volumes, informed LETA/BNS.

As a result of the rearrangement, the number of departures will increase from 14 per week to 22.

The extra sailings will be performed by the freight and passenger ferry Patria Seaways, assisting Sirena Seaways, the current ferry on the route.

"The trend in freight and passenger volumes remains strong on the route, and for a long time, our customers have requested more capacity and higher frequency. I am really pleased that we can now offer this with two daily departures in each direction nearly every day," Anders Refsgaard, vice president and head of DFDS' Baltic operations, said.

"Unfortunately, this means that we will close the service between Paldiski and Hanko, where there has been a steady decline in demand and volumes. Instead, we can offer our Finland-Estonia customers transport on the Tallinn-Helsinki and Muuga-Vuosaari routes," Refsgaard said.

The changes will not affect staff numbers.
