Tallink's passenger numbers decreased by 72% in June y-o-y

The listed Estonian shipper AS Tallink Grupp in June 2020 transported 280,520 passengers, which is a 72.5-% decrease compared to June 2019 when Tallink carried one million passengers, reports LETA/BNS.

Passengers transported on Tallink vessels between Estonia and Finland numbered 234,737 in June 2020, 56.5% less than in June 2019. Passengers carried between Finland and Sweden numbered 41,348 -- 86.1% less than during the same month last year, Tallink Grupp told the stock exchange.


Tallink transported 3,026 passengers between Estonia and Sweden in June, the figure marks a 96.9-percent drop compared with June 2019. 1,409 people traveled between Latvia and Sweden on Tallink vessels, 98.3% less than during the same month a year ago.


The number of cargo units decreased by 5.2% to 30,064 units and the number of passenger vehicles decreased by 37.7% to 75,418 units in the same comparison.


The number of cargo units transported between Estonia and Finland grew 0.4% from 20,545 to 20,620, and the number of units transported between Finland and Sweden increased 3.1% from 5,948 to 6,135.


Cargo units transported between Estonia and Sweden decreased in number by 18.2% from 3,783 to 3,093 units and those carried between Latvia and Sweden declined 84.9% from 1,429 to 216 units.


The number of passenger vehicles transported by Tallink totaled 75,418 in June, 37.7% less compared with the same month the year before.


Passenger vehicles transported between Estonia and Finland numbered 69,767, marking a 19.7-% decline year over year. The number of passenger vehicles carried between Finland and Sweden totaled 5,082, or 76.8% less than in June 2019.


Tallink vessels carried 215 passenger vehicles between Estonia and Sweden in June -- 96.8% less than in June last year -- and 354 vehicles between Latvia and Sweden -- 93.6% less in yearly comparison.


In the second quarter of the 2020 financial year (April to June), AS Tallink Grupp transported 388,212 passengers, which is a 85.4-% decrease compared to the previous year when 2.6 million passengers were carried. The shipper transported 322,590 passengers between Estonia and Finland in the second quarter, the numbered fell 76.7% on year. The number of passengers carried between Finland and Sweden fell 93% on year to 53,984. Altogether 8,337 passengers traveled between Estonia and Sweden in the second quarter, 96.9% less than during the same period last year. The number of passengers carried between Latvia and Sweden declined 98.5% on year to 3,301.


The number of transported cargo units decreased by 12.8% on year to 86,755 units in the same comparison. The number of cargo units transported between Estonia and Finland declined 6.9% from 63,995 to 59,580 in the second quarter, and the number of units transported between Finland and Sweden contracted 8.7% from 19,814 to 18,097.


Cargo units transported between Estonia and Sweden decreased in number by 25.1% from 11,522 to 8,631 units and those carried between Latvia and Sweden declined 89.4% from 4,215 to 447 units.


The number of passenger vehicles transported by Tallink totaled 299,477 in the second quarter, 65.8% less compared with the same quarter the year before. Passenger vehicles transported between Estonia and Finland numbered 94,427, marking a 57.7-percent decline year over year. The number of passenger vehicles carried between Finland and Sweden totaled 6,937, or 83.9 % less than in the second quarter of 2019.


Tallink vessels carried 215 passenger vehicles between Estonia and Sweden during the second quarter  -- 98.7% less than during the second quarter last year -- and 900 vehicles between Latvia and Sweden -- 94.4% less in yearly comparison.
