The national airline airBaltic plans to increase its freight transport business and to start using cargo planes starting next year, Bertolt Flick, airline's CEO, says in an interview to the newspaper Latvijas Avize.

At the moment, airBaltic has already launched transit freight business. The volumes are increasing, particularly from the west to east.

"I think we have not quite used the air cargo capacity in Riga Airport, as it is in an advantageous geographic position. Riga is the closest airport to the Far East and China, and it could become one of the most important cargo transit airports to China," believes the entrepreneur.

He further adds that at the moment, the airline has not specialized in air freight business, that is why the freight volume is still relatively small.

At this time we are working on developing the business, so that we can deploy our own cargo planes next year, informs Flick.
