Estonia: 9 injured as bus drives off road on Tallinn-Narva highway

Nine people were injured when a bus with 67 people on board drove off the road on the Tallinn-Narva highway early on Sunday morning, writes LETA/BNS.

The accident with the bus headed from St. Petersburg to Tallinn happened in the territory of Harju County on the 30th kilometer of the Tallinn-Narva highway at 4:45 a.m.


The 67 people on board the bus included two drivers. The driver who was driving the bus at the time of the accident was sober.


Nine people, including four citizens of Latvia, were taken to hospital. None of the victims had sustained life threatening injuries. 


The Russian embassy in Tallinn later announced that also one citizen of Russia was injured in the accident. 


The rest of the passengers were taken to the destination with substitute buses.

The embassy said that immediately after the accident their officials contacted the Estonian police, who informed them that there was one citizen of Russia, born in 1984, among the injured. The embassy contacted said person, who informed them about having received necessary medical attention and having been released from hospital. 

According to tentative information the accident may have been caused by a technical malfunction of the bus, as a result of which the driver lost control of the vehicle and the bus drove off the road into a ditch.
