Lux Express Latvia not too worried that Rail Baltica could take away a lot of passengers from bus companies

At the moment, bus companies are not too worried that the Rail Baltica railroad could take passengers away from buses, as Lux Express Latvia head Krisjanis Rekis told LETA.

"Could anyone say right now what exactly Rail Baltica will look like and how it will operate? I think that not even those implementing the project know that. Yes, we are following the developments, but we are not trying to influence the project in any way. I believe that the parties involved, and especially politicians should finally understand what this project is needed for, and how much it is needed. I fear that it may become another project that gets started and then takes a lot of patience and money from the residents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia," said Rekis.

He expressed doubts about the project's profitability, especially in terms of passenger transport where Rail Baltica would have to compete with such companies as Lux Express Latvia, which operates eleven trips from Riga to Tallinn and ten to Vilnius every day. He also said that Rail Baltica fares would not be low. Rekis believes that Rail Baltica passengers will be those who currently prefer to fly in the Baltic countries.

Lux Express Group is an international bus company with operations in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Finland, Belarus and Russia.
