EVA-316, the multipurpose vessel of the Estonian Maritime Administration that has been breaking ice on ship routes to the southwestern port of Parnu since Jan. 10 has assisted ships on 151 occasions, spending 241,000 liters of fuel in the process, informs LETA/BNS.

In current conditions EVA-316 is up to the task but if ice conditions got tougher and a second icebreaker was needed, the Maritime Administration has the Protector of the towage and salvage company Alfons Hakans on standby under a year's contract.

The icebreaker Botnica of the Port of Tallinn will head to the area of the port of Sillamae on Estonia's northern coast on Tuesday to start clearing ship routes there of packed ice.
