“Riga International Airport is the leading airport in the Baltic countries, and it is time to take the next step. The company is strong enough to begin to compete successfully in the Baltic Sea region both in passenger and cargo transportation," says Armands Jurjevs, the new chairman of the board.
He sees the potential for development of the infrastructure of the airport and its adjacent territories, offering new services to existing customers, as well as attracting new customers. Jurjevs also emphasizes the role of national airline airBaltic, noting that it is very important to respect the plans of airBaltic and other airlines in planning the airport's development.
In order to develop and promote the company's operations, the board intends to strengthen and improve the airport’s procurement and financial management. The board will also focus on issues affecting the daily work at airport, including passenger service, in particular security services. "Security is today's most urgent issue to be addressed from all the possible aspects," says Jurjevs.
The new board of Riga International Airport started work on Monday. The board consisting of Ilona Lice, Lauma Jenca and Irina Feldmane will be chaired by Armands Jurjevs.
As reported, the Ministry of Transport, as the representative of the shareholder of Riga International Airport, on October 21 supported the decision of the Airport’s Supervisory Board on the election of the chairman and members of the board of Riga Airport.
Full owned by the Latvian state, Riga International Airport is the largest air traffic hub in the Baltics, serving 45% of the air passengers in the Baltic States. The 20 airlines operating at Riga Airport offer 69 destinations in the winter season and 79 in the summer season.
