Cargo turnover of Baltic ports down 4% in 8 months

Latvian ports handled the majority of the cargo, or 42.6%, followed by Lithuanian ports with 33.5%, while Estonian ports handled 23.9% of the total amount of cargo handled at Baltic ports.
In the first eight months of the year, Latvian ports handled 41.104 mln tons of cargo, which was by 13.4% of 6.374 mln tons less when compared to the first eight months of 2015.
Lithuanian ports handled 32.316 mln tons of cargo, or 9.1% more than last year, while Estonian ports handled 23.01 mln tons of cargo, or 2.5% less than last year.
The largest port in the Baltics, in terms of cargo turnover, was Klaipeda Port, which handled 26.22 mln tons of cargo in the first eight months of the year, or 3.4% more when compared to the same period last year.
Riga Port was second in terms of cargo turnover with 23.873 mln tons, followed by Port of Tallinn with 13.971 mln tons.
