TS Laevad in talks to find 4 substitute ferries

BC, Tallinn, 24.08.2016.Print version
TS Laevad, the Port of Tallinn subsidiary that is to start operating ferries between mainland Estonia and large western islands as of October, is preparing for the possibility of the four new ferries arriving late and is therefore in talks with four companies to rent substitute vessels, informs LETA/BNS according to the news portal of the public broadcaster ERR reports.

"We are in talks with four companies, some of which are Estonian and some foreign companies. We have agreed on conditions and are waiting for feedback," told CEO of TS Laevad, Kaido Padar.

Padar did not want to name the companies or say when the first contract is to be signed. He also did not want to talk about a maximum amount for renting the vessels since he does not want to influence the partners.

According to the daily Postimees, the ferry Leiger which is being built in Turkey will be ready soon but probably not on time. There is a slight chance that the second ship, Toll which is being built in Poland, would be ready on time but the more realistic deadline is the middle of October.

The ferry Piret is to probably arrive from Poland in December, while the arrival time of Tiiu from Turkey will be clear in coming weeks.
