Jan-July freight flows of Estonian Railways drop 22.9%

Altogether 7.5 mln tons of freight was transported on the infrastructure of the state-owned Estonian railway infrastructure company Eesti Raudtee (Estonian Railways) in the first seven months of 2016 or 22.9% less than in the same period a year ago. In July freight carriage totaled 779,000 tons, Estonian Railways spokesperson Liina Hallik told LETA/BNS.

The biggest decline in the seven-month period was recorded in the shipment oil and oil products where carriage dropped 46.9% to 2.7 mln tons. Shipment of fertilizers grew 7.3% to 2.3 mln tons.
Oil shale shipments decreased 5% on year to 1 mln tons, while the shipment of chemical goods increased 3% to 600,000 tons.
Transit shipments fell 28.5% to 5.2 mln tons and local shipments were off 12% at 1.3 mln tons.
Import and export shipments meanwhile moved up nearly 4% to 930,000 tons.
