BC, Riga, 17.06.2016.Print version
Rigas Satiksme municipal public transport company plans on building a hydrogen fueling station for EUR 4.5 million, the company's representative Didzis Stepe told the press on June 16th, cites LETA.

He said that EU co-funding will cover 50% of the project, which envisages construction of hydrogen producing, storage and filling facilities.

The Rigas Satiksme representative said that the hydrogen fueling station will be made available also to private transport.

As reported, Rigas Satiksme has announced a tender to purchase ten new hydrogen-powered trolleybuses. The tender will end in July. The goal of such a procurement is to reduce emissions.

Co-financing in the innovation project has also been allocated by the EU. The source of the co-financing is the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which so far has financed just one project in Latvia – Rail Baltica.

Rigas Satiksme spokesman Viktors Zakis said earlier that the EU will provide co-financing of up to 50%, but exact sum of the project is not known yet because the tender has not been completed yet.

The project includes procurement of trolleybuses and also building of hydrogen refilling stations, which would be accessible also to private transport vehicles.
