Freight shipment by EVR Cargo decreased by 27% in January y-o-y

EVR Cargo, the Estonian state owned rail freight haulage company, saw its operating volume in January 2016 drop by 27% year-on-year to 964,000 tons, reports LETA/BNS.

"A decline in freight volumes are big compared to last January, but in the past few months freight carriage volumes have remained stable," acting board chairman Paul Lukka said.

 

The shipment of mineral liquid fuels dropped 39% year over year to 317,000 tons and the shipment of fertilizers came down 25% to 269,000 tons. Of bulk goods 16,000 tons was shipped, 39% less than in January 2015, while chemical goods decreased 4% to 74,000 tons. The shipment of oil shale moved down 12% to 208,000 tons. Containers shipped were down 15% at 3,542 TEU. 

 

Shipments handled by EVR Cargo between Estonia and Russia totaled 432,000 tons in January, 39% less than a year before. Shipments to and from Belarus increased by 25% to 164,000 tons, Latvia shipments fell 56% to 29,000 tons, and shipments to and from Kazakhstan declined by 93% to 5,000 tons. Shipments to and from Lithuania meanwhile grew 100% to 56,000 tons.

 

Transit shipments amounted to 491,000 tons, making up 51% of total shipment volumes and marking a decrease of 40% from January a year ago.
