Tallinna Sadam cargo volume decreased by 14.6% in September y-o-y

Ports administered by the Estonian state-owned Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) in September 2015 handled 1.8 million tonnes of cargo, which was 14.6% lower compared to the result of the same period last year, the company announced LETA.

Tallinna Sadam Head of Commerce Erik Ringmaa said that in September, among trade groups, the dry bulk volumes grew most, thanks to grain exports. Dry bulk volume grew by 52.1% to 315,600 tonnes. In September, 125,700 tonnes of grain was exported through the Port of Muuga and Paldiski South Harbour.

 

Among cargo groups, the mass of goods transported in containers and volume of rolling stock grew as compared to the same month last year. Ports of Tallinna Sadam handled in September 162,800 tonnes of goods transported in containers and 396,300 tonnes of rolling stock, which is 2.8% and 9.9% more than last year.

 

The volume of the biggest cargo group or liquid cargo decreased by 32.5% to 898,200 tonnes. Mixed cargo volume dropped 44.5% in September to 29,500 tonnes. The number of containers passing through the port fell by 8.7% to 20,507 TEU.

 

In the first nine months of the year, the cargo volume that the company handled fell 21% to 17.02 million tonnes.
