Taxi Pocket: taxi is an alternative to drunk driving for Rigans

BC, Riga, 07.07.2015.Print version
A survey among the drivers of Taxi Pocket, a taxi booking app, shows that most frequently Ri-ga residents and visitors use taxi on Friday and Saturday nights and about 80% of the clients are under the influence of alcohol at weekends. To discourage drink driving, in July and Au-gust 2015, Taxi Pocket will hold regular events to raise awareness of the drivers.

This June, Taxi Pocket conducted a survey among 100 taxi drivers. The results of the survey show that 59% of the clients are men up to 27 years old and most taxi calls take place on Friday and Saturday nights and on Monday. While during the week about 25% of the clients are under the influence of alcohol (both men and women), on Fridays and Saturdays the majority, or about 80% of the clients, are drunk.

Tadas Jurelevičius, Taxi Pocket Director: “Taxi Pocket was launched in May and in the first months of our operation we have observed that Rigans mainly use taxi services when they cannot get behind the wheel themselves. Without doubt, taxi is a way to get to a destination safely without endangering one’s own health and life the health of life of those around. That is why this summer we launched an awareness campaign to encourage our residents and visitors to be more responsible and avoid drinking and driving. After all, a taxi fare is nothing compared to the benefits of a safe journey home.”

To encourage the residents and guests of Riga to be responsible and call a taxi instead of getting behind the wheel under the influence, on 3 July in Old Riga Taxi Pocket held its first awareness event when the cars were ‘turned’ into taxis using taxi signs and everyone could get information about travelling safe.
