Tallinna Sadam passenger number rose in May, trade volume dropped

The ports of the Estonian state-owned port operator Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) serviced in May 2.05 million tonnes of cargo and 892,892 passengers, the company announced, cites LETA.

Compared to the same period last year, the cargo volume dropped by 15.9%, the number of passengers was by 0.9% higher than last year.

 

In May traditionally the biggest number of passengers travelled on the Tallinn-Helsinki route, 723,190 people; on the Tallinn-Stockholm route 82,218 people and the Tallinn-St Petersburg route 15,549 people travelled. The start of the cruise season brought to Estonia 71,809 cruise tourists. In May, 66% of passengers were serviced by Tallink, 18% by Viking Line, 16% by Eckerö Line and 2% by St. Peterline. Cruise tourists formed 8% of all passengers.

 

By commodity groups, dry bulk cargo volume declined in May the most, 28.2% to 167,000 tonnes. The largest commodity group of liquid cargo decreased by 20.3% to 1313.7 thousand tonnes. The number of containers passing through the port fell by 25.4% to 15,368 TEU and the quantity of the goods transported in containers by 10.4% to 131.7 thousand tonnes.

 

Among cargo groups, the volume of mixed cargo and rolling stock rose compared to the same month last year. The ports of Tallinna Sadam handled in May 56.6 thousand tonnes of mixed cargo and 384.2 thousand tonnes of rolling stock, which is by 5.2% and 6.7% more than last year.

 

In five months of this year, the total quantity of the goods mediated was 10.4 million tonnes, a fall of 20% from last year and the total passenger number reached 3.35 million people, a fall of 1.2% from last year.

 

In May, cargo ships visited the Port of Tallinn ports 153 and passenger ships 471 times.
