Port of Tallinn passengers number stable, cargo volume drops in April

The ports managed by Estonian state-owned Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) serviced in April 2015, 2.05 million tonnes of cargo and 699,704 passengers; as compared to the same period last year, the cargo volume fell by 10%, the passenger number was practically equal to the previous year, or 0.3%, the company announced LETA.

In April, traditionally the biggest number of passengers travelled on the Tallinn-Helsinki route, 611,369 people; on the Tallinn-Stockholm route travelled 79,117 people and the Tallinn-St Petersburg route 9,095 people. In April, 63% of passengers were serviced by Tallink, 19% by Viking Line, 17% by Eckerö Line and 1% by St. Peterline.

 

By commodity groups, mixed cargo volume declined in April the most, 18% to 60,000 tonnes. The largest commodity group of liquid cargo decreased by 17% to 1252.5 thousand tonnes. The number of containers passing through the port fell by 34.2% to 17,794 TEU and the quantity of the goods transported in containers by 10.3% to 164.1 thousand tonnes.

 

The volume of bulk cargo and rolling stock grew. Port of Tallinn ports handled in April 209.4 thousand tonnes of dry bulk cargo and 363.7 thousand tonnes of rolling stock, which is 22.4% and 7% more respectively than last year.

 

In four months of this year, the total quantity of the goods mediated is 8.34 million tonnes and the total passenger number reaches over 2.4 million people.

 

In April, cargo ships visited the Port of Tallinn ports 146 and passenger ships 424 times.
