A cargo ship owned by the Latvian company Ostmet sank in the Black Sea near Turkey on February 19th 2015, reports LETA, referring to the portal PortNews.

Built in 1970, the "Fort Azov" listed to port during the night on Tuesday, as its 3,000-ton cargo of wood shifted.

The ship's captain requested help from the Turkish Coast Guard, which reached the vessel three hours later.

It was impossible to evacuate the ship's crew due to a heavy storm. Evacuation successfully ended on the Wednesday morning after the captain acknowledged that the sinking was inevitable.

All 12 "Fort Azov" crew members were successfully evacuated on Wednesday. The ship finally sank on Thursday.
