Estonian tourism companies prefer Latvian and Lithuanian bus services

Estonian travelling companies often choose Lithuanian or Latvian buses and drivers when organizing trips around the Baltic States, because it costs cheaper in the neighboring countries in comparison with the same services on the local market, LETA/Postimees reports.

Due to that situation, Estonian bus drivers are forced to look for employment in Scandinavia.

Tourists' flow grow in Estonia, as statistical data show; however, it does not reflect in improvements in employment level among bus drivers, because the pan-Baltic tours are mostly serviced by Lithuanian specialists.

As representatives of Estonian tourism company Reisiekspert state, they most likely hire bus drivers from Lithuania because they work for lower pay.

"The prices are coordinated with each enterprise individually, but, in fact, hiring a bus in Lithuania costs about 100 euros less [than in Estonia]," Reisiekspert representatives note.

An average bus tour around the Baltic States lasts approximately ten days; therefore, rent of buses in either Latvia or Lithuania produces considerable savings for Estonian companies.
