Estonia registers EU's steepest increase in house prices in Q2

Compared to the respective period in 2013, house prices rose 8.2% in Latvia in the second quarter of 2014, the fifth steepest increase in the European Union, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat. Estonia was a leader, writes LETA.

The steepest year-on-year increase in house prices among all EU countries for which data are available was registered in Estonia – 14.5%, followed by Ireland – 12.5%, Great Britain – 10.2%, and Sweden – 8.7%.

 

The largest year-on-year reductions were recorded in Slovenia – 9.8%, Italy – 4.8%, and Romania – 3.8%.

 

In Lithuania, house prices increased 6.5% year-on-year.

 

House prices stayed the same in the euro area but increased 1.7% in the EU in the second quarter of 2014, compared to the second quarter of 2013.

 

Compared to the first quarter of 2014, house prices increased 0.9% in the euro area, but increased 1.4% in the EU in the second quarter of 2014.

 

In Latvia, house prices grew 1.9% quarter-on-quarter, the sixth largest increase in the EU.


The steepest quarter-on-quarter increases in house prices were registered in Ireland – 6.8%, Lithuania – 4.1%, and Denmark and Great Britain – 3.9% each.

 

In Estonia, house prices increased 1.1% quarter-on-quarter, the sixth largest increase in the EU.

 

The largest quarter-on-quarter reductions were reported by Slovenia – 2.6%, Romania – 1.3%, and Italy – 0.5%.
