Latvian Saeima passes amendments to Construction Law

BC, Riga, 03.07.2014.Print version
Today, Saeima passed amendments to the Construction Law in the final reading, which stipulate improvements of the construction work supervision process in Latvia, reports LETA.

According to Chairman of Saeima's Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy Committee, Janis Ozolins (Unity/Reform Party), these amendments are necessary to adjust and improve the new Construction Law, which will come into effect in October, 2014.

The law stipulates that construction inspectors will have to check whether the construction works are carried out according to regulations, and whether the construction goods comply with the project's requirements. Inspectors will also have to make sure that the construction materials correspond to those listed in the project's documentation and inform the supervisory institution about any flaws found.

If the construction inspector comes across a flaw, he or she is authorized to stop the construction works. The decision to stop the construction process, can be made immediately and is effective until the Construction Board gives permission to continue the construction work.
