SEB: 3 out of 5 Lithuanians expect housing prices to rise

BC, Vilnius, 14.04.2014.Print version
In March 2014, 3 out of 5 (59%) Lithuanians said that in their opinion housing prices would increase in the short run. 21% of residents expected that housing prices in the coming 12 months would remain the same, while 9% of those polled thought that housing prices in Lithuania would decline, a survey commissioned by SEB bank revealed, cites LETA/ELTA.

According to the data of the survey, compared to December 2013, a share of residents, who thought that housing prices would rise, increased by 7 percentage points.

A year ago, in March 2013, 33% of those polled expected an increase in housing prices, 14% said prices would fall, while 38% of those polled thought that prices would remain the same.

"Though expectations for an increase in housing prices may be related to the planned adoption of the euro, nevertheless, we think that the introduction of the euro will have no direct impact on real estate prices. If some significant changes in housing prices occurred right before the euro adoption or immediately afterwards, it would be short-term changes," said Julita Varanauskiene, Household Economist at SEB Bank.
