Estonia plans to direct 4 bln kroons to works for improving energy sustainability of buildings

Prime Minister Andrus Ansip stated at the Government press conference on Thursday that the State is planning to direct 4 billion kroons to works for improving energy sustainability of residential houses and other buildings, writes LETA/Äripäev.ee.

“This is good news for construction enterprises, architectural designers, architectural and engineering companies,” asserted Ansip, adding, “There is work to be done!”

According to him, Estonia has concluded by now contracts for selling Kyoto pollution quotas for a total of 2.5 million kroons, including options, thus finding buyers for approximately a quarter of the quota that Estonia will not use.

Now there is need to find the projects on the State level and municipal levels to use these resources for enhancing heating or energy usage efficiency.

The PM noted that those buying the pollution quota from Estonia would like to invest in objects where it would bring best returns in terms of energy sustainability – schools, hospitals, care facilities. The condition is that the objects need to be concluded by the end of the year 2012 and the amounts from selling pollution quotas would not replace the State or municipal investments into these objects.

The reconstruction projects will be co-ordinated by the State Real Estate Company that will also organise an information event for construction companies and designers on October 13.
