Latvia: Government okays plan to build National Concert Hall at 2 Elizabetes Street
As LETA was told at the Culture Ministry, the government accepted Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis' (National Alliance) proposal to build the National Concert Hall on the property at 2 Elizabetes Street, owned by Valsts Nekustamie Ipasumi (State Properties, VNI). The National Concert Hall will be developed on the site of the World Trade Center building, which will be torn down.
The culture minister called the government's decision historic, adding that it will turn a new page in the development of culture, construction and related industries in Latvia, as the project is expected to be a strong impulse for economic development.
Puntulis underlined the importance of building the concert hall in line with all 21st century standards, observing the principles of climate neutrality and respectful treatment of the environment. The minister also called for an involvement of professionals and the wider public in further work on the project.
