Canadian soldiers fuel demand for apartments in Riga rental market
BC, Riga, 11.08.2017.Print version
Compared to the first quarter of the year 2017, demand in the Riga rental apartment market jumped in the second quarter of the year, Ober-Haus real estate company said in its latest market review, cites LETA.
Apartments for rent were in high demand among non-residents moving to the
Latvian capital city for work-related purposes, such as the Canadian soldiers
who have been deployed to Latvia to boost NATO presence in Latvia.
Students have also started looking for apartments (double to three- bedroom
apartments) ahead of the start of the academic year in September, according to
the Ober-Haus report. Some of them
have already signed their lease contracts and are paying the rent even though
they do not need the apartments yet.
Local residents, meanwhile, are looking for less expensive rent options,
preferably double-room apartments in the price range from EUR 200 to EUR 450,
but the supply of such apartments is scant, Ober-Haus
said.
