The Estonian government has approved funding for several real estate projects in 2017-2020, including the construction of two regional rescue buildings, a new building for the school of fine arts and renovation of several kindergartens, informs LETA/BNS.

"The government will invest on the average 70 million euros per year to build new and overhaul existing buildings that are necessary for the state," Prime Minister Taavi Roivas said in a press release.

The government granted funding for eight projects under which designing or construction work can start already this year, which include designing of the new building of the school of fine arts, reconstruction of the Knighthood House at Toompea, designing a memorial to victims of Communism at Maarjamae, completing the Seaplane Harbor that serves as home to the Estonian Maritime Museum, construction of the buildings of the regional rescue units of Vandra and Vastseliina, and preparing the design for the reconstruction of the building of the Supreme Court.

In addition, the government decided to allocate money earned from the sale of carbon emission cerdits to municipalities for the renovation of kindergartens and care homes. Approximately 14 million euros will be invested in kindergartens and 12 million euros in care homes until 2017.

From 2019 onwards the government intends to increase payments into the fund for the repair of buildings to ensure more stable funding for buildings belonging to the state, reduce the size of one-off investment decisions and prevent a backlog of repairs.
