The city council explains that the amendments concern about 0.1% of the territory of the city, and they are necessary to balance out the goals of Jurmala's development strategy with the opinions of residents, businessmen, and non-governmental organizations.
According to the amendments, maximum height of several buildings may now be increased to 12 stories – this concerns the Baltic Beach Hotel, rehabilitation center Vaivari, two spa centers, and a land plot at 41/45 Juras Street where a new sanatorium will be built.
Also, a new park will be built in the area between the shore and Zvinu Street, Jaunkemeru Street, and Kolkas Street. There will be a similar park near Kemeri Sanatorium, new resort centers will be built in Bulluciems and Dzintari, and others.
Opponents of the amendments previously pointed out that part of the planned construction activity will be in the dunes and forests of Jurmala.
