Presidential residence in Jurmala requires refurbishment; rent to increase
"The lath that came off was replaced. But in general, the place has undergone no refurbishing," said Andris Caune, a representative of Valsts nekustamie ipasumi (State Real Estate).
In the State Real Estate's opinion, the visual defects ought to be eliminated just like in any other residential building after the furniture is removed and the premises are slightly outworn. For example, the building's upper floor, where the ceiling was leaking, requires improvement. The maritime climate, too, does its damage.
The rent will increase as well because of the renovation. Refurbishing costs were not revealed, and the State Real Estate added that "a lot will depend on the new president's needs".
As reported, Vejonis said in an interview with the Latvian Radio show "Krustpunkta" last week that he wishes to keep residing in his current apartment in Ogre.
He indicated that the presidential residence in Jurmala could be used for organizing important meetings.
