Lithuania and Turkey established the Joint Economic and Trade Commission

The Joint Economic and Trade Commission established by Lithuania and Turkey will provide concrete support for businesses seeking for new ties and contacts, says Presidential Advisor on Foreign Policy Martynas Lukosevicius, cites LETA/ELTA.

Lukosevicius, a member of the delegation headed by President Dalia Grybauskaite which is visiting Turkey, says that the declaration on finding the joint commission will help deepen trade relations. According to the advisor, the commission will not only oversee institutional cooperation but will as well hold bilateral business consultations.

 

"It will be concrete support for business seeking for new ties and contacts. One of the goals of the commission is to promote relations between Lithuanian and Turkish small and medium-sized businesses. It will be able to solve arising disputes and analyse new investment opportunities," Lukosevicius told the radio Ziniu Radijas on the pone.

 

According to the presidential advisor, more bilateral economic agreements between Lithuania and Turkey are expected to follow but negotiations are still ongoing.

 

Lukosevicius said that Turkish businessmen are very interested in Lithuania. According to him, at least 120 Turkish companies registered for bilateral business forum which opens on Tuesday. Meanwhile, there number of Lithuanian companies stands at 22, although it does not mean that only they are interested in developing relations as many more Lithuanian companies operate in Turkey.

 

The Presidential Office said that Grybauskaite's visit is aimed to give a new stimulus to business relations with Turkey.

 

"It is especially important because Lithuania is looking for new markets and new opportunities. Lithuania is introduced as a modern country with great business opportunities," emphasised the advisor.
