Vilnius funds its companies, not school or hospitals

Danuta Pavilenene, BC, Vilnius, 21.11.2014.Print version
Vilnius Municipality is a founder and shareholder of more than 400 companies and it is not avoiding to fund them, informs LETA/ELTA, referring to Lietuvos zinios.

In fact, the money is thrown not at Vilnius schools or hospitals, but instead at companies under the patronage of Mayor Arturas Zuokas and his coalition partners.

Vilnius is governed by the coalition constituted of the followers of Mayor Arturas Zuokas, the Labour Party, the Social Democratic Party and the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania. They make no secret of the plans to merge some hospitals and outpatient clinics. The move is purportedly aimed at reducing the city's financial obligations reaching LTL 1.327 billion (EUR 384 million). However, the municipality does not intend to withdraw from hundreds of companies whose activities are often associated with the interests of politicians who govern the capital.
